Photography Process
As someone who has experienced a lifetime of hardships and trauma creativity became my escape. As a child, I found myself seeking peace and healing in the escape that art provided. I grew up in a low-income household and had to learn to use what only what things I had access to. Travel was often not affordable and high-end equipment was neither readily available. I Found myself getting lost in the simpler parts of life. Enjoying the flowers and colors of the changing seasons. As a child I practiced focusing on mundane subjects like the interesting cracks in the sidewalks and the unique vintage appliances in my grandparents’ yard. I used my creativity and imagination to find interest in subjects that others may have passed by.
Self-taught as a photographer I am constantly working to add knowledge to my pallet. Being used to limited resources I usually lean towards preferring limited post editing techniques. I love having photographs that look realistic, while carefully and creatively adding my artist touch.
In my post editing process, I take time to enhance the already present light, colors and details I have captured. I have a habit of challenging myself to use the natural resources of my surroundings and subjects in my toolkit more than relying on my post editing practices.
Growing up in Oregon I was accustomed to a completely different photography environment than when my family and I relocated. The constant overcast skies and seemly always green lush scenery I was used to has been an adjustment for me as I have learned to alter my photography style since relocating.
Since relocating I have adjusted my photography style to reflect my love for my current surroundings and home. My photography now tends to reflect my love for western and vintage color tones, and a touch of warmth. I still find myself interested in enhancing shadows and undertones while allowing bold colors in my pieces when I can. Using black and white to focus attention on the stillness and details in my work has been something I find myself using increasingly.
As a photographer I find interest in the details. From the way the light glitters off frozen forgotten foliage to the way the way the rays dance across my subjects. I find interest in both small and large objects. As an introvert my preference is shooting subjects that are not humans but have taken on recent challenges to photograph people more. I have a wide range of interests from landscapes and wildlife to flowers, insects and the more simplistic aspects of life. I love to capture the beauty of my subjects in unexpected and often unnoticed ways. I love being in nature and am constantly inspired by my surroundings. In my photography and art, I hope to share my appreciation for Gods creation and share the hope, happiness and inspiration I have found in my journey as a photographer and artist.
Painting process
Currently I find myself primarily painting impasto style. I love the thick textures of the paint and including bold colors. Finding lots of inspiration by the last few years I spent tending to my flower farm. The Farm which is more recently making a transition into a large, landscaped flower garden. The transition of the farm became after I experienced and increase in health issues made it difficult to continue the endless labor of farming. My love for the impasto painting style compliments my current health limitations.
I am often inspired by nature scenes and tend to paint scenes that I have created in my mind, while sometimes still finding inspiration in actual places. At times my previous photography may inspire my artwork or play a role in choosing subjects or color tones. Bright floral subjects currently are a huge part of the focus of my current painting collection.
As a perfectionist and busy mother ironically, I find peace and pleasure in the abstract nature and feeling of freedom impasto painting gives me. Being able to complete a piece of artwork in a reasonable amount of time helps keep protentional selling prices more affordable for buyers and allows me to still have time for family, and self- care while also tuning into my creativity and love for painting. My time spent in the impasto style paintings has helped me see life through a different lens and given me healing and peace I have struggled to find else wear.
